The East London Cemetery & Crematorium is located in Plaistow in the London Borough of Newham. The Cemetery was founded in 1872 and the principal objective of the company was to provide a cemetery for residents of the eastern parts of the metropolis. The East London Cemetery & Crematorium now offers burial and cremation services and a wide range of memorials, headstones and plaques. The two chapels were built towards the end of the 19th Century and are still in use. The burial chapel, dedicated as the Church of St Michael and All Angels, has a valuable set of stained glass windows. The cremation chapel is non-denominational and services of all faiths may be conducted. The cemetery land area consists of about 33 acres and its use has been conserved over the years allowing scope for further burials. The cemetery provides a range of burial services including private graves, common graves, a section of lawn graves, above ground ashes graves and a section for baby burials. Concurrent with the opening of the Crematorium, a memorial rose garden was established, offering small plots on fixed term leases, where rose trees are planted and small memorials permitted. In 2002, we established a retail stone mason, Grange Memorials, offering a full range of headstones, vase blocks and kerbs.
