Memorials

 

The following range of memorials is available at the East London Cemetery and Crematorium for the commemoration of anyone.

The Book of Remembrance provides a permanent memorial to a loved one. Entries in the Book can be placed under a day of your choice and the entry will be displayed on that day every year. The Book is situated in its own quiet room at the centre of the Cemetery. Please see separate leaflet for more details. Keepsake versions of an entry to take home are also available.

The Children's Book of Remembrance is a new memorial and provides the same permanent memorial as the main Book, but is designed for children aged up to 15 years. Again, entries in the Book can be placed under a day of your choice and the entry will be displayed on that day every year. Keepsake versions of an entry to take home are also available.

  
  Note: The Book of Remembrance and the Children's Book of Remembrance are the only permanent form of memorial at the Cemetery. Once an entry has been placed in the Books it will never be removed and no further fee of any kind will be payable with respect to that entry. All other forms of memorial are placed within the grounds on a fixed term lease.

The Leather Panel scheme is situated in the Book of remembrance room. The plaques are made from the finest leather and are tooled with gold leaf. The plaque has the capacity for three lines of text (as per the illustration) and is leased for a period of seven years, after which time it can be renewed.A photograph showing close up detail of a sample leather panel plaque.

The memorial wall is situated behind the crematorium. The plaques have the capacity for up to seven lines of text, and a motif or photograph if desired. Flowers can be displayed on the wall and the cremated remains of a loved one can be scattered in the ornamental garden behind the wall. Again, the plaques are leased for a period of seven years, after which time they can be renewed.

The granite memorial plaques are situated at the end of the southern ornamental garden, opposite the Columbarium gardens. The plaques are made from highly polished black granite and can be inscribed with up to seven lines of text and a full colour enamelled motif from a large range of designs. Plaques are leased for a period of seven years, after which time they can be renewed. The Granite Memorials are contained within their own garden area, incorporating circular decorative paving, quiet benches and arbours and an ornamental water feature.

Memorial benches are available on a 32 year lease, and are situated throughout the grounds. A bronze engraved plaque is attached to commemorate a loved one. Arbours are offered on a 7 year lease and incorporate an engraved plaque. Additional plaques can be added at a cost of £100.

Memorials may be ordered at the Grange Memorials or Cemetery offices and designs include small marble or granite vases, books, tablets or hearts for the Rose Gardens. Miniature kerb sets for children are also available incorporating more ornate designs like Teddy Bears and Angels, and these are available exclusively through the Cemetery office.
